The fee is usually payable on receipt of a mortgage offer. In some cases, a fee or part of the fee may be payable in advance, and this will be fully explained and agreed with you in writing beforehand.

How much can I borrow for a mortgage?

Every lender takes a different approach to how much you can borrow. The amount you are eligible to borrow depends on the cost of the property you wish to purchase, the size of your deposit, your income, and your affordability taking into account monthly financial commitments and future commitments. How much deposit do I need for a mortgage?

What is a remortgage?

A remortgage is swapping the mortgage on your current property for another mortgage with a different lender. You may consider this if your existing mortgage deal has expired and you want a more competitive deal, or if your circumstances have changed and you want to borrow more. Remortgaging does not involve moving home. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.

How do I prove my income for a mortgage application?

If employed, you will need at least your last 3 months payslips and sometimes your P60. If self-employed, you can use SA302s from HMRC or at least 2 years of trading accounts. You will also need to provide bank statements for the last 3 months. If you have other income such as tax credits, written evidence from the provider will be required.
